The David C. Olson Graduate Scholarship for Business Community Excellence

This scholarship is an investment in future business leaders and will provide support for a Minnesota resident enrolled in the Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) program with an interest in business, community, and public affairs leadership.  In addition to the scholarship support, this award will include an internship with either the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, a local Minnesota Chamber, or the national Office of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce.  Through this internship, the student will have the opportunity to see first-hand the critical role that chambers have in bringing a business perspective to public policy and developing our local and state economies.

David left a lasting mark on the statewide business community and all Minnesotans.  He served as President of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce for over 23 years.  In addition to earning his Master’s degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato, David served six years on the board of the Minnesota State College and Universities system, including serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2007 – 10.

“Everything David did professionally was aimed at developing and growing Minnesota’s economy.  He concluded early on that the two most important ingredients were strong chambers of commerce and a growing cadre of business owners and managers actively engaged in public policy.  This scholarship addresses both requirements.  It simultaneously introduces future executives to chambers of commerce and public affairs.  Some may choose to become chamber professionals.  All will have public policy as part of the foundation for their business career.  Either way we continue David’s mission and build his legacy. ”
--- Bill Blazar, Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and
